Privacy

Short version: your PDF never leaves your device. The only exception is the opt-in scanned-stack detector, which sends small page previews, never the file, after you agree.

Your files

When you choose a PDF, your browser reads it into the memory of this tab. Splitting is done there by open-source JavaScript (pdf-lib, Mozilla pdf.js and fflate), and results are saved with a normal download. No file, page or thumbnail is sent to our servers or anyone else's. Close the tab and it's gone from memory.

The optional words-to-ranges helper

If you use "Describe the split in words", your sentence, the page count and the document's bookmark titles (up to 60) are sent to our server and passed to an AI model through Vercel AI Gateway to suggest page ranges. The PDF itself is never sent. Don't type anything confidential into that box. We don't store these requests.

The opt-in scanned-stack detector

On the scanned PDF page, and only after you tick the consent box and press the button, small JPEG previews (about 560 pixels wide) of up to 120 pages are sent to our server and passed to an AI vision model through Vercel AI Gateway. The model returns page numbers and short file-name labels. The images are not stored. The original file and the splitting stay on your device.

Blank-page and text search

Finding blank pages (pixel counting) and splitting by text (reading the PDF's text layer) both run entirely in your browser.

Stored in your browser

SplitPDF remembers three preferences in localStorage: your file-name pattern, the ZIP setting and your last size limit. They never leave your device.

Clear saved preferences

Analytics

We use Ahrefs Web Analytics, a cookieless tool that counts page views and referrers without tracking you across sites. It sees which pages you visit, not your files.

Hosting

The site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and time of request) for security and operations.
